History

The Yardley Ice House is a family-owned gourmet water ice and custard shop and operated by Jackie and Todd McGonigal since 2022, the original owners' niece and her husband. Originally founded in 1994, Susan and John Bissert crafted gourmet water ice in their small store that offered original flavors made with the best ingredients. Other water ice stores in the area only served standard flavors that were typically manufactured elsewhere and bought in bulk. They wanted to create a place that the community would gather to enjoy delicious desserts and each other’s company.

The menu was limited at first, but they soon began featuring favorites like Orange Creamsicle and Cherry Bordeaux, and quickly developed a large following. They have since expanded their menu to include over 80 unique flavors, like Key Lime Pie and Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup. In 2023, Jackie and Todd opened their second location, The Newtown Ice House, and continue to run both stores. The Ice Houses are open seasonally from March to late September. 

In addition to gourmet Italian water ice, the  Ice House offers old-fashioned soft-serve custard, gelatis, sundaes, shakes, malts, floats and blend-ins. A proud community supporter, the Ice House donates to numerous local charities, schools, and organizations, and hosts fundraisers regularly!
